Description:   Opened: 2004-06-21 07:29 0000
Glxquake homepage: http://mfcn.ilo.de/glxquake/

From the author:

"Basically, it's just the quake sourcecode compiled as a binary, that works with every 3D-graphics-card that supports the glx X-extension. (It should at least work with all NVidia-cards, with XFree 4.x and the Drivers from NVidia)."

"there are several other projects, like quakeforge, out there that seem to do the same thing (and even better) as my binary [...] all these projects I know, focus on quakeworld, not quake. This binary is a _quake (1)_ binary [...] most off these projects modify the original quake. That is not the case with this binary. I only made some modifications to the Makefile so that it compiles properly (not linked against glide) and fixed some 'bugs'"

This is the binary I use for playing GLquake on Linux. The ebuild included in portage for quake-original-sources has problems with mouse focus and entering fullscreen mode. In the other hand, this one works like a charm. I think could be a good idea include it in portage.

Tested with a Geforce2 GTS for six months and no problem at all. Now I use a Radeon 9600 Pro (for some months now) so I can assure it works also with the ATI binary drivers (not only nVidia). Also tested under both X.org Xserver and XFree without problems.

The source code is available in the home page.

------- Comment #1 From Marcos González 2004-11-05 07:19:12 0000 -------
A new version has been released that fixes compatibility with Voodoo3 cards and
latest Nvidia drivers. Now it works with my GeforceFX 5700LE.

It's basically a patch that is applied over the original quake1 source code.

Works great.

added the binary version to portage (games-fps/glxquake-bin)
