Description Andreas Grois 2015-02-05 12:11:23 UTC
When using glamor as supplied by the glamor package or xorg-server versions older than 1.17, sometimes glyphs in text are not displayed correctly. It happens rather frequently, that instead a different character gets displayed, or that something gets visualized that looks like a readout of uninitialized memory.

It sometimes helps to select the text that isn't shown correctly. The wrong characters are then replaced by the correct ones. Nevertheless this doesn't always work.

I don't think it is caused by my GPU driver, but just for info, I'm currently running the radeonsi driver from Mesa 10.4.2 on a Radeon R9 270X.

Reproducible: Sometimes

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Install xorg-server version older than 1.17 with the glamor USE flag
2. Install open source Mesa GPU drivers
3. Configure X11 to use glamor 2D accelleration (that's the default - and only option - with radeonsi cards)
4. Browse the web with Firefox for some time. Go to a lot of websites that use different fonts.
5. Check if all characters are displayed correctly.
Actual Results:
Some characters are replaced by other characters or data that looks like uninitialized memory.

Expected Results:
Text should render correctly.

The issue is not present with the latest xorg-server version 1.17.
