Gnome don't start with gjs-1.42.0, but with gjs-1.41.1 work's fine.In log no errors. Reproducible: Always

Gnome start with gjs-1.42.0, after rebuild system with ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="~amd64"
(In reply to nE0sIghT from comment #5) > Works for me > > emerge -pv gjs > > These are the packages that would be merged, in order: > > Calculating dependencies... done! > [ebuild R ~] dev-libs/gjs-1.42.0::gnome USE="cairo gtk -examples > {-test}" 0 kB Are you on stable or testing branch?
gjs-1.42 is probably requiring a library that is not explicitly updated in its configure. Now to find it...
(In reply to Gilles Dartiguelongue from comment #9) > gjs-1.42 is probably requiring a library that is not explicitly updated in > its configure. Now to find it... Could it be x11-libs/cairo-1.14.0 ? This one is listed as a dependency in http://www.linuxfromscratch.org/blfs/view/svn/gnome/gjs.html and is unavailable in main tree or gnome overlay (seems to be in poly-c). I'll try it later to see if that helps.
Sorry, wouldn't match with comment #7... but I'd still look around x11-libs (xcb for instance)
(In reply to Damien Granger from comment #11) > Sorry, wouldn't match with comment #7... but I'd still look around x11-libs > (xcb for instance) I believe that is correct. i.e. works with x11-libs/libxcb-1.11, and all sorts of problems with libxcb-1.10.

I also tried systemd-218 and it's not helping either.
I didn't consider more than one dependency... libxcb was just the last one before it worked. In case it helps here are the changes I had done before that (older first): From: media-libs/harfbuzz-0.9.28 To: media-libs/harfbuzz-0.9.35 From: x11-libs/libXext-1.3.2 To: x11-libs/libXext-1.3.3 From: x11-libs/libXi-1.7.2 To: x11-libs/libXi-1.7.4 From: sys-libs/readline-6.2_p5-r1 To: sys-libs/readline-6.3_p8-r1 From: dev-libs/libffi-3.0.13-r1 To: dev-libs/libffi-3.1-r3 From: sys-apps/dbus-1.8.10 To: sys-apps/dbus-1.8.12 From: sys-libs/glibc-2.19-r1 To: sys-libs/glibc-2.20 Also happened to have done: From: x11-drivers/xf86-video-intel-2.99.916 To: x11-drivers/xf86-video-intel-2.99.917
(In reply to Chris Mayo from comment #14) > I didn't consider more than one dependency... libxcb was just the last one > before it worked. > > In case it helps here are the changes I had done before that (older first): > > From: media-libs/harfbuzz-0.9.28 To: media-libs/harfbuzz-0.9.35 > From: x11-libs/libXext-1.3.2 To: x11-libs/libXext-1.3.3 > From: x11-libs/libXi-1.7.2 To: x11-libs/libXi-1.7.4 > From: sys-libs/readline-6.2_p5-r1 To: sys-libs/readline-6.3_p8-r1 > From: dev-libs/libffi-3.0.13-r1 To: dev-libs/libffi-3.1-r3 > From: sys-apps/dbus-1.8.10 To: sys-apps/dbus-1.8.12 > From: sys-libs/glibc-2.19-r1 To: sys-libs/glibc-2.20 > > Also happened to have done: > > From: x11-drivers/xf86-video-intel-2.99.916 To: > x11-drivers/xf86-video-intel-2.99.917 I did it in another order and restarted gdm between each merge, and x11-libs/libXi unlocked the situation. My order was 1. readline-6.3_p8-r1 2. glibc-2.20-r1 3. sys-apps/dbus-1.8.12 4. media-libs/harfbuzz-0.9.37 5. dev-libs/libffi-3.1-r3 6. x11-libs/libXi-1.7.4 Didn't do libXext and it works so it's not needed, didn't do intel xorg module either, as I use nvidia proprietary drivers.
I already downgraded to: readline-6.2_p5-r1 (stable) dbus-1.8.40 Obviously won't downgrade to glibc-2.19-r1 as "Sanity check to keep you from breaking your system: Downgrading glibc is not supported and a sure way to destruction" Still working so those two are not needed at least
I also downgraded to : harfbuzz-0.9.28 libffi-3.0.13-r1 libxcb-1.10 xcb-proto-1.10 So the culprit is quite surely libXi (and maybe glibc but not sure). All should be done now is add a version dependency on libXi for a package, I'd guess the best place would be in mutter as it already have >=x11-libs/libXi-1.7 as a dependency. Should be modified into >=x11-libs/libXi-1.7.4
Regarding glibc-2.19-r1, I run it and works fine. Regarding libXi... maybe this problem is related with: https://mail.gnome.org/archives/commits-list/2014-July/msg06562.html And, then, 1.7.4 should be a good requirement
More references: https://bugs.funtoo.org/browse/FL-1827 -> suggests 1.7.4 could also fix it https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1174721 Per the references looks like gnome-shell is the one that should carry the dep but I am not sure :/
Looks like mutter is the right one... no idea why they don't update the configure.ac check... :S https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=738944 + 30 Dec 2014; Pacho Ramos <pacho@gentoo.org> mutter-3.14.3.ebuild: + libXi-1.7.4 or newer needed to prevent bug #525218 (by Yuriy, Damien Granger, + nE0sIghT, Chris Mayo...) +
Thanks guys for getting though with this.
