I recently began to remove some unneeded 32bit library from my system and encountered, that app-emulation/emul-linux-x86-baselibs[-ldap] still installs /usr/lib32/libslapi-2.4.so.2.9.1 which links against /usr/lib32/liblber-2.4.so.2.10.2 and /usr/lib32/libldap_r-2.4.so.2.10.2 This triggered both libraries to be preserved. Reproducible: Always
Those three useflags weren't added to change anything actually installed by this ebuild, but to prevent multilib packages from being pulled.
Exactly. They are irrelevant for people not using USE=abi_x86_32. We should probably add descriptions (alike for USE=pulseaudio in soundlibs) to metadata.xml and stable-mask them.
I've updated metadata.xml to state what the flags do exactly. We do not really support stripping emul-linux-x86 packages, and we're going to deprecate them soon enough, so this is WONTFIX.
