monit-5.8 has a bug, see mentioned URL. 5.8.1-r1 (also in portage, but unstable so far) works (seems to include the patch already). Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. add something like the following to /etc/monitrc: check host myhost with address myhost start program = "/usr/bin/virsh start myhost" stop program = "/usr/bin/virsh shutdown myhost" if failed icmp type echo count 4 with timeout 15 seconds then restart 2. reload/restart monit 3. make host myhost unreachable via ICMP ... Actual Results: Service is not restarted and logs show: monit: Start, stop or restart method not defined for process check 'myhost' Expected Results: Service should be correctly restarted by monit (the defined commands should be correctly read and executed).
So the easiest fix is to stable a newer version; done for x86 and amd64 PPC team: please stable =monit-5.9
ppc stable, closing
