Hello all, So today I ran an emerge --sync on my server and then a --depclean, this prompted me to do a @preserved-rebuild in which dev-libs/Ice-3.5.1 was pulled in to be rebuilt for my sys-libs/db to have the most up-to-date links. However, during the compile for Ice, it failed. I looked in the build.log and saw this: MapI.cpp:1729:48: error: call of overloaded 'set_bt_compare(int (*)(DB*, const DBT*, const DBT*))' is ambiguous _db->set_bt_compare(&customIndexCompare); ............... ../../config/Make.rules:339: recipe for target 'MapI.o' failed make[2]: *** [MapI.o] Error 1 make[2]: *** Waiting for unfinished jobs.... this is the top most error in the build.log and seems like it is an upstream error if anything.. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. update your portage tree to this point in time Wed Aug 6 13:16:01 EDT 2014 (which provides the appropriate Ice version) 2. emerge --depclean 3. emerge @preserved-rebuild Ice should fail to compile Expected Results: It should build.. I forgot to mention in the "Steps to reproduce" that you need to update your system (emerge -uDNav @world --with-bdeps=y) and after that run the emerge --depclean.

as you can see by my build log my error is different,I ve added java & php,but the result is the same incidentally my java-vm =icedtea, though I actually emerged oracle-jdk-bin 8. Geoff
Just did a fresh rebuild inside a chroot using the stage3-amd64-20140731.tar.bz2 file (digest was fine before starting to use it so no corrupted files) and rebuilt my entire /var/lib/portage/world and using almost identical package.use and make.conf. The following error occurs which is different than the original one but identical to Geoffs: MapDb.cpp:138:46: error: call of overloaded 'set_bt_compare(int (*)(DB*, const DBT*, const DBT*))' is ambiguous set_bt_compare(&customCompare); Now portage doesn't say that I need to rebuild this file (no @preserve-rebuild messages), and it is also installed from wherever it came from before: octopus / # equery y Ice Keywords for dev-libs/Ice: | | u | | a a a p s | n | | l m r h i m m p s p | u s | r | p d a m p a 6 i p c 3 a x | s l | e | h 6 r 6 p 6 8 p p 6 9 s r 8 | e o | p | a 4 m 4 a 4 k s c 4 0 h c 6 | d t | o ---------+-----------------------------+-----+------- [I]3.5.1 | o + ~ o o ~ o o o o o o o + | o 0 | gentoo but explicitly doing a "emerge -1 Ice" causes the above to happen. I've attached a build.log and make.conf for the new chroot attempt.

This a bumped version of https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=476378 , and hence is a duplicate.
exactly the same here (amd64, core2).
As a side note, in order to get this build, I had to modify the ebuild, in order to depend on sys-libs/db:5.3[cxx] and to explicitly set the include dir to use 5.3 instead of 6.0 and to link to the right slot. E.g MAKE_RULES="${MAKE_RULES} DB_FLAGS=-I$(db_includedir 5.3 )" sed -i \ -e "s|g++|$(tc-getCXX)|" \ -e "s|\(CFLAGS[[:space:]]*=\)|\1 ${CFLAGS}|" \ -e "s|\(CXXFLAGS[[:space:]]*=\)|\1 ${CXXFLAGS}|" \ -e "s|\(LDFLAGS[[:space:]]*=\)|\1 ${LDFLAGS}|" \ -e "s|\(DB_LIBS[[:space:]]*=\) \-ldb_cxx|\1 -ldb_cxx-$(db_findver sys-libs/db:5.3 )|" \ cpp/config/Make.rules{,.Linux} py/config/Make.rules || die "sed failed"
can confirm the patch works here. Many thanks!

I run into the same problem today. Attached ebuild diff works. Would be nice if this could be included in portage :)
+ 06 Sep 2014; Sergey Popov <pinkbyte@gentoo.org> Ice-3.5.1.ebuild: + Make dependency on dev-libs/db more strict, forbid linking to incompatible + versions of it, wrt bug #519248. Thanks to Jonathan Vasquez <jvasquez1011 AT + gmail.com> for discovering this issue and Stefan Talpalaru <stefantalpalaru + AT yahoo.com> for draft of proposed solution
I had the same problem crop up again,with the latest sync,on a system reinstall I applied the patch as described on the initial install which appeared to work. When installing gnuradio,the same hassle arised,with Ice not building. I looked at the ebuild and noted the lack of db6,did an equery search,and noted I had db6 installed so I included this in the ebuild,ran ebuild manifest,and Ice compiled up just fine. I think the resolved fixed,may have been a bit premature,fella's
