I don't think this has anything to do with gentoo-sources specifically, try rebuilding your udev-related virtuals first: "emerge -1av virtual/udev virtual/libudev virtual/libgudev"

It turnt out that some profile change must have add -systemd to the default use flags. Adding (+)systemd to my use flags in /etc/portage/make.conf allows me to emerge virtual/udev virtual/libudev virtual/libgudev and then gentoo-sources.
