On opening a PDF:

(atril:18419): GLib-GIO-ERROR **: Settings schema 'org.mate.lockdown' is not installed

The appropriate schemas are installed with mate-base/mate-desktop. So either mate-document-viewer should depend on mate-base/mate-desktop, or we wait until the issue is resolved upstream. Upstream bug:
