The segfault doesn't happen immediately, though. Everything works normally until I try watch a video with either mplayer or ffplay. (BTW totem and avidemux don't cause this problem.) I'll attach some logs. Reproducible: Always Downgrading to xorg-server-1.14.5 fixes the problem. I tried both ati-drivers-13.12 and ati-drivers-14.1_beta. Both drivers work normally with xorg-server-1.14.5 and both cause segfaults on xorg-server-1.15.0.

Upgrade sys-kernel/linux-headers at least to longterm linux-3.10 There has been much change regarding multimedia from linux-3.9 to linux-3.10 Beside I really wonder why there is no stable sys-kernel/linux-headers-3.10 despite having a stable gentoo-sources-3.10.25

I'm also experiencing this problem whenever I try to play video (e.g. VLC or Skype video call). I'm running kernel 3.12.6 with kernel headers 3.13. Downgrading to xorg-server 1.14.5 made the problem go away.
You may want to give ati-drivers-14.3_beta a try.
Upgrading to 14.3_beta of ati-drivers fixes the issue on my system.
The latest ati-drivers work normally for me too. This bug happily has fixed itself :)
