Description Helmut Jarausch 2014-01-22 09:46:46 UTC
www-client/midori-0.5.5 crashes reproducably on several machines if I invoke
"Save Page As" from the right-mouse-button popup menu.
It saves the page but with a scrambled file name.
It prepends the 3 characters 0xE2 0x80 0xAA to the filename with suffix .html, as well as to the corresponding directory name.

This is with as well as without use flag deprecated.
Unfortunately, the webkit2 use flag is masked (and midori doesn't build
if I unmask that use flag)

this is with gtk+-3.10.6

0.5.7 is now in Portage. Perhaps you could give it a try?

*** Bug 507038 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. ***

> 0.5.7 is now in Portage. Perhaps you could give it a try?

Like mentioned in the duplicated Bug 507038, Comment #0, the problem is still there and even escalated:

Saving files will print out:

File Name: (null)
File Type: unknown ('application/octet-stream')

And this was reported to upstream as:

http://bugs.launchpad.net/midori/+bug/1303821
Comment 4 Samuli Suominen (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2014-04-07 17:52:54 UTC
And the duplicated bug 507038 mentions changing USE="webkit2" to USE="-webkit2" makes some difference to the issue, but doesn't make the problem go away entirely.
Futher testing, information, is required.
Comment 5 Samuli Suominen (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2014-07-14 15:13:53 UTC
Looks like there is a patch pending on review (and testing):

https://bugs.launchpad.net/midori/+bug/1173744

Like,

https://code.launchpad.net/~evfool/midori/lp1173744/+merge/225449/+preview-diff/536065/+files/preview.diff

I'm not actively working on this, so I welcome efforts of porting the patch to latest midori release and attaching it here :)

midori-0.5.8.ebuild which applies a Webkit2 patch

Webkit2 patch from https://code.launchpad.net/~evfool/midori/lp1173744/+merge/225449/+preview-diff/536065/+files/preview.diff

The attached patch applies cleanly and the Save-As crash seems to be gone.
