Noberasco is a prolific open source developer, as demonstrated by his email below. I'd be happy to mentor him as a new member of the Desktop team. > Hello folks... > > My name is Michele Noberasco, I'm of course a Gentoo enthusiast, and > really would like to be able to lighten your burden a bit by maintaining > the following packages: > - sys-apps/qingy (wrote it, wrote the ebuild, last bug is #45072) > - qingy themepack ebuilds (not in portage, see > http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=47137 > http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=37740) > - x11-plugins/wmpower (wrote it, wrote the ebuild, last bug is #45076) > - app-sci/lin-seti (wrote it, wrote the ebuild, last bug is #45074) > - bozotic http server (wrote an ebuild, see > http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=30573) > > I'm also a great fan of WindowMaker, so I would like to be able to help > here, too, expacially regarding dock app ebuilds, which always tend to > be out-of-date... > Noberasco, when you receive this, please get in touch with me > so we can begin your probationary period and do a bit of training > on policies, etc. Hope to hear soon. Uh, how fast a reply! I suppose I'm supposed to answer by mail, so that's what I'll do ;-)
Here is my reply to your email, I could not send because of the following: Apr 25 18:40:05 y0shi postfix/smtp[31025]: connect to mail-mx-3.tiscali.it[212.123.84.54]: Connection timed out (port 25) --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Excellent. I appologize for getting your name backwards, I grabbed it from the From: line in your email. Basically you need CVS experience, ebuild knowledge, and bugzilla access, you seem to be good on all points. I assume as 9600 you don't do IRC.. this is my preferred method of communication, but email works also. There is a mandatory 2 week waiting period, starting right now, where you should continue reading the developer docs and asking me any questions that come up. Afterwards I'll send you a quiz to complete, mostly from the same docs.. its open book and you can also phone a friend in a pinch, the only point is to make you find and remember the answers. Upon successful review of your quiz, you should be setup for CVS access, take a quick primer on repoman (our CVS client-side error checker) and you'll be on your way. You can find me on IRC as tseng on #gentoo-desktop @ irc.freenode.net, or at this email. Good luck, clock starts now.
Michele, how are you doing? Since you've had no questions so far, I assume you've been digesting all the material well, so I'd like to give you a last chance to pose problems/concerns before test time. You shouldve also read about the copyright assignment policy.. after a successful test you will need to sign a form to hand over copyrights on your ebuilds/docs/etc to Gentoo in order to have a single body to defend our intellectual property. So here it is. Are you ready?
> Michele, how are you doing? Since you've had no questions so far, > I assume you've been digesting all the material well, I finished reading all the documentation... Interesting the bit about '-fPIC', I rushed to see if I was handling it correctly in qingy. Fortunately for me, autoconf/automake are good at doing their stuff ;-) > so I'd like to give you a last chance to pose problems/concerns > before test time. Sounds scary ;-) Gentoo has some of the best documentation I ever found, so good that right now I don't have any question to ask :-) > You shouldve also read about the copyright assignment policy.. > after a successful test you will need to sign a form > to hand over copyrights on your ebuilds/docs/etc to Gentoo > in order to have a single body to defend our intellectual property. The paper is sitting on my desk, signed and waiting to be handed over ;-) > So here it is. Are you ready? As ready as I'm going to be!
Having some guru meditation before the ordeal ;-) BTW, if you cannot contact me at michele.noberasco@tiscali.it you can also try noberasco.gnu@disi.unige.it or michele.noberasco@virgilio.it
Tseng, what's going on with this one?
/me taps fingers... Still waiting on quiz, copyright, gpg key... He responded to say that he started working on these, but nothing to show for it yet. My appologies for the slow action here, sometimes real life ends up taking precedence. Deedra, feel free to put this on hold until you get back if you cant wait any longer. Michele, Deedra needs to take a few weeks off coming up fast, which is why we would like to get this deal wrapped up quickly.
OK I'll send my answers later tonight...
OK, you have it. Sorry for the big attachment, but didn't know what image resolution was acceptable for you...
Michele, please generate an SSH DSA keypair and send the id_dsa.pub file to recruiters@gentoo.org. This key will be used for connecting the dev.gentoo.org and accessing CVS. You can find instructions on generating that keypair here: http://www.gentoo.org/proj/en/infrastructure/cvs-sshkeys.xml Follow the first section called "Creating the SSH Keys".
Just mailed it...
jhuebel, ping.... What are you doing with this one? If you can't take him, can seemant or avenj?
alright, I'll do this one. Michele, come talk to me asap if possible... Tomorrow afternoon, or sunday would be best if you can. Monday mostly works to, though my time is a bit limited.
OK, I'm home now and got a free afternoon ;-) Also emerging xchat, just in case. I'll be online from time to time from about 14:00-14:30 (Italy, GMT+2) until we get in touch, but at 18:30 I must leave (dinner with my fiancee, if you get my point ;-P ). After that, it will probably be Monday, full day...
Uh, juat noticed your time... For me 14:00 PST means about 23:00... I'll surely be there also from 23:30 until sleep takes me... Bye Michele
He's set, let me know if there's any problems
Again, honoured to be on board! Tonight I'll do my forst commit to the Tree, so tell ciaranm to keep his Lost Spork of Alzingaurd handy, just in case ;-)
Changing bug titles to comply with new developer bug title conformance standards, sorry for the spam.
- Last (viewable) bugzilla activity: 2012-05-07 - Last CVS activity: Fri, 11 May 2012
looks like he's committing again
He replied us will probably retire For now, we will reassign his packages. Also will give him 15 days to decide what to do (really retire or keep in gentoo maintaining less packages)
- Packages reassigned, but will keep open for 15 days due reasons explained above
Infra please proceed
Hi All, yes, I confirm that you can proceed with my retirement. As much as it saddens me, with the dwindling of my free time my contributions to Gentoo have become irrelevant and I don't see that changing in the near future :-( I'll be happy to come back at a later time, if life allows me... Regards, Michele Noberasco
Infra retirement done.
