The latest version of Slurm in Portage (2.5.6) is from ~6 months ago and 5 new version have come out since then. Please update the ebuild to the latest version 2.6.3 as the 2.6 branch has numerous improvements over the 2.5 branch.

I've just tested and bumping ebuild to the latest version with no other changes builds and runs correctly.

Also, I am willing to proxy-maintain this package to keep it up-to-date. I work with it on a daily basis and have contributed to the upstream project.

I added 2.6.3 to tree. Seems i need to update my clusters when i'll have time.
