Description Daniel Nilsson 2013-09-26 17:44:56 UTC
Starting spotify pops up an error message:
"Spotify is already running, but not responding. Please close it and try again"
But spotify is not running!

Using strace I found out that it is actually dbus-launcher that is failing to start. It fails to load libplc4.so.9 (looking in /lib64 and /usr/lib64). I have saved the strace, just ask and I can attach it (~60kb gziped).

The spotify ebuild makes symlink from /usr/lib64/libplc4.so to /opt/spotify/spotify-client/libplc4.so.9 and /usr/bin/spotify sets up LP_PRELOAD. I guess that something goes wrong because of this.

As a workaround the following lets me start spotify:
cd /usr/lib6
ln -s libplc4.so libplc4.so.9
ln -s libnspr4.so libnspr4.so.9

Reproducible: Always

Comment 1 Jorge Nerin 2013-09-27 11:46:52 UTC
I had to patch the ebuild because of nss and nspr library name changes:

	# different NSPR / NSS library names for some reason
	sed -i \
		-e 's/\(lib\(nss3\|nssutil3\|smime3\).so\).1d/\1\x00\x00\x00/g' \
		-e 's/\(lib\(plc4\|nspr4\).so\).0d\(.\)/\1\x00\x00\3\3/g' \
		opt/spotify/spotify-client/libcef.so || die "sed failed"

So far it seems to work for me.

I'm holding out for the new release (this one has security issues), so I'm going to keep this open for now, but the fix is in tree.
Comment 3 Daniel Nilsson 2013-10-02 21:21:54 UTC
I tested the new, patched, version of the ebuild and I can confirm that it works. I no longer need my workaround.

Since Jorge's patch removed the ".9" I though that the symlinks in opt/spotify/spotify-client/ might no longer be needed. I tested to remove that hack from the ebuild, and it still works!
Removed these lines:
#hack to fix the nspr linking in spotify
        dosym /usr/lib/libnspr4.so /opt/spotify/spotify-client/libnspr4.so.9
        dosym /usr/lib/libplc4.so /opt/spotify/spotify-client/libplc4.so.9
        sed -i 's/libcef\.so/libcef\.so\ \/opt\/spotify\/spotify\-client\/libnsp
r4\.so\.9\ \/opt\/spotify\/spotify\-client\/libplc4\.so\.9/g' "${ED}/usr/bin/spotify"

Looking forward to the next official release.
A big thank you to everyone helping to get Spotify working in Linux!
