Most importantly, it has multithreaded compression! The 5.0.5-r1 ebuild works for 5.1.2_alpha without modification. We should possibly mask it for testing.
xz-5.1.2alpha only contains fixes from xz-5.0.3 and -5.0.4 but not -5.0.5. See http://git.tukaani.org/?p=xz.git;a=summary for the timespan that's between 5.1.2alpha and 5.0.5. We should rather add some git snapshot.
