Description Jean-Francis Roy 2013-09-03 20:10:23 UTC
In a KDE desktop, installing app-backup/deja-dup brings some GNOME dependencies, but it seems it is missing some.

The settings are not saved, and when the backup is started, any settings are ignored.

Message from command-line :

$ deja-dup-preferences

** (deja-dup-preferences:7354): WARNING **: Couldn't register with accessibility bus: Did not receive a reply. Possible causes include: the remote application did not send a reply, the message bus security policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout expired, or the network connection was broken.
GLib-GIO-Message: Using the 'memory' GSettings backend. Your settings will not be saved or shared with other applications.

** (deja-dup-preferences:7354): CRITICAL **: atk_bridge_adaptor_cleanup: assertion `inited' failed

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. emerge deja-dup on a non-GNOME desktop
2. Run deja-dup-preferences
3. Change settings, exit
4. Run deja-dup-preferences again
Actual Results:
Settings are reset to default

Expected Results:
Settings should have been saved

...but let's ignore that bit for a moment.
The minimum is dbus running and dconf installed.
There might be a thing or two more to check, but without those two you won't get far.
Comment 2 Jean-Francis Roy 2013-09-03 21:17:28 UTC
dbus is installed and running.

gnome-base/gconf is not installed, nothing depends on it. Manually emerging gconf solves the issue : the configuration remains set.

It seems to me that deja-dup should depend on gconf at it relies on it, and no package in its dependency tree currently depends on gconf.

I will attach the output of "equery g --depth=10 deja-dup-27.3.1". The only reference to gconf is a pulseaudio dependency, activated when the "gnome" USE flag is set, which is not the case on my system.

Comment 4 Rafał Mużyło 2013-09-03 22:20:03 UTC
'dconf'!='gconf' even though either would likely work.
Comment 5 Jean-Francis Roy 2013-09-08 21:41:41 UTC
Seems like deja-dup-preferences keep preferences when gconf is installed, but deja-dup --backup actually segfaults with the following :

(deja-dup:12421): GConf-CRITICAL **: ltable_insert: assertion `gconf_valid_key(where, NULL)' failed

Removing gconf and installing dconf solved all problems.
