The most important change being that the new engine from the previous release for cff fonts is now the default one.

It fails to compile with USE="utils"

Something is amiss with the PV, MY_PV etc, and it cannot locate the ft2demos directory. It expects to find ft2demos-2.5.0.1 but the actual directory is ft2demos-2.5.0. See build.log.

Should I file a separate bug report?

That's already taken care of. Sync and try again. If there is still a problem, file a new bug report.
