Did you enable NTFS in your kernel configuration? It's not enabled by default. Check your kernel configuration.
I compiled my kernel by using genkernel. With 2.4.25, ntfs support was enabled by default. Has this genkernel-behaviour been changed for 2.6?
Probably - use genkernel --menu-config and look for the ntfs option.
I tried "genkernel --menuconfig all" and looked for NTFS, which showed that NTFS is not compiled it. Not as a module, neither directly into the kernel. Does --menuconfig show the default configuration used when "genkernel all" (w/o --menuconfig) is run? If so, then NTFS support seems to be missing... Will it be included again in future releases, please? ;-) I think it's important...
I tried with menuconfig and now it works. I therefore propose that NTFS should be enabled in the default configuration. What do you think?
Reassigning to genkernel. My comment on this: leave NTFS disabled in the default config. This is a linux system and NTFS is not native for us. Besides, the driver only allows to read data, so it's far from complete. Why overbloat the default config?
Most other distros have NTFS enabled, as a lot of users dual boot and need to read their NTFS data. I suggest enabling it per default.
Fixed in genkernel-3.0.2b; it should reach Portage from CVS in half-an-hour. Thanks!
