Description Florian Berger 2013-08-21 19:20:16 UTC
Dropbox 2.2.8 depends on the /lib/libbz2.so.1.0 symlink, which is not provided by < bzip2-1.0.6-r3. As a result, dropbox will not start and yield

ImportError: libbz2.so.1.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

An update to >= bzip2-1.0.6-r3 fixes this, so the dropbox ebuild should depend on that version of bzip2.

Thanks for considering.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Install =dropbox-2.2.8
2. Install =bzip2-1.0.6
3. Run dropbox

Alternatively, just drop <bzip2-1.0.6-r3 from the tree already, given that bzip2-1.0.6-r3 is already over two years in the tree and stable across the board since Feb 2012.

Alternatively, try to keep your system up to date. :-\

An up to date system is the user's business. Gentoo's business, in my mind, is stating correct dependencies of ebuilds, forgivingly reminding the user upon emerges. ;-)

Sure, personally I've used 1.0.6-r3 since Oct 2011.
That would be because I was using 'emerge -pDNuv @installed' at the time.

Since the package is such a common dependency it's unlikely to be in @world and thus unlikely to get automatically upgraded for those who happen to have 1.0.6 installed as long as that ebuild exists in tree.

the symlink in question is provided by 1.0.6-r1+
