midori won't start with grsec without 'paxctl -m /usr/bin/midori'. I believe this can be handled in the ebuild? $ midori -g Launching command: '/usr/bin/gdb' --batch -ex 'set print thread-events off' -ex run -ex 'set logging on /tmp/midori-user/gdb.bt' -ex 'bt' --return-child-result --args midori warning: Cannot call inferior functions, Linux kernel PaX protection forbids return to non-executable pages! I would expect this to be a bug in net-libs/webkit-gtk again. Provide output of `emerge --info` and `emerge -pv midori webkit-gtk` so we don't have to guess. CCing hardened@ plus gnome@ for net-libs/webkit-gtk http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=338561#c8 "Disabling executable memory protection in a browser is a pretty big deal, since it is usually the piece of software that is most exposed to external attacks. I didn't find mmap calls in midori source, so it's probably a problem in webkit. I wonder is this is similar to this bug: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=516057 incidentally, /usr/bin/jsc also segfaults on hardened Gentoo, so it could be that Midori tries to unconditionally initialize javascript support. I will file a separate bug about jsc failure."

Not a problem: # emerge -pv webkit-gtk:2 [ebuild R ] net-libs/webkit-gtk-1.8.3-r201:2 USE="geoloc gstreamer introspection jit spell webgl (-aqua) -coverage -debug {-test}" 0 kB

That is the flag that has caused problems in the past, and that would confirm this is a webkit-gtk bug.
You are correct, midori runs fine with 'paxctl -zex /usr/bin/midori' if I compile: USE="-jit" emerge -1 webkit-gtk:2
It's a known problem: # Build-time segfaults under PaX with USE="introspection jit", bug #404215 if use introspection && use jit; then epatch "${FILESDIR}/${PN}-1.6.3-paxctl-introspection.patch" cp "${FILESDIR}/gir-paxctl-lt-wrapper" "${S}/" || die fi Currently, the way to handle this is to make the marking only when the USE flag is set. You can read latest webkit-gtk and epiphany ebuilds as reference

You can read latest webkit-gtk and epiphany ebuilds as reference epiphany's ebuild look like bad example, it has useless IUSE="jit" and [jit?] when it could do a has_version check instead but okay, I'll restore pax-mark to the midori's ebuild
