After emerging conky I see:

 * You can find sample configurations at /usr/share/doc/conky-1.9.0-r2.
 * To customize, copy to ~/.conkyrc and edit it to your liking.

But:

% find /usr/share/doc/conky-1.9.0-r2  
/usr/share/doc/conky-1.9.0-r2
/usr/share/doc/conky-1.9.0-r2/html
/usr/share/doc/conky-1.9.0-r2/html/config_settings.html
/usr/share/doc/conky-1.9.0-r2/html/variables.html
/usr/share/doc/conky-1.9.0-r2/html/docs.html
/usr/share/doc/conky-1.9.0-r2/html/lua.html

So there are no sample configurations.

I think they are in /etc/conky. I will take a look at this in the evening.

I mistakenly pointed to the new path but this version still installs the example into /etc/conky.
