Description Vivek Shah 2013-07-19 13:17:26 UTC
I did a system update followed by revdep-rebuild which pulled in empathy to be rebuilt but the build for empathy fails with the following description in the build log:

configure: error: Package requirements (gcr-0 >= 2.26.0) were not met:

No package 'gcr-0' found

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Run emerge -av empathy

Actual Results:
Build fails with the following log:

checking for GCR... no
configure: error: Package requirements (gcr-0 >= 2.26.0) were not met:

No package 'gcr-0' found

Consider adjusting the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable if you
installed software in a non-standard prefix.

Alternatively, you may set the environment variables GCR_CFLAGS
and GCR_LIBS to avoid the need to call pkg-config.
See the pkg-config man page for more details.

Expected Results:
Build should complete

What version of gnome-base/gnome-keyring do you have, and with what USE flags?

What is the output of "pkg-config --libs gcr-0" ?
Comment 4 Vivek Shah 2013-07-20 09:35:06 UTC
gnome-base/gnome-keyring :
Installed versions: 3.6.3(12:09:59 PM 07/19/2013)(caps filecaps pam -debug -selinux -test)

Result of "pkg-config --libs gcr-0"

Package gcr-0 was not found in the pkg-config search path.
Perhaps you should add the directory containing `gcr-0.pc'
to the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable
No package 'gcr-0' found

(In reply to Vivek Shah from comment #4)

Thanks. The problem is that empathy-2.34 is incompatible with gnome-keyring-3.6.

Your options are
1. upgrade empathy (and all the rest of gnome) to version 3.x; or
2. downgrade gnome-keyring to 2.32.1-r1 (this will also mean downgrading libgnome-keyring and removing app-crypt/gcr).

Gentoo's gnome ebuilds are at the moment keyworded amd64 for gnome-2 and ~amd64 for gnome-3, and many of gnome-2's and gnome-3's libraries are incompatible with each other. So if you are allowing ~amd64 keywords for only some of gnome libraries but keeping amd64 for others, this is bound to lead to conflicts and breakage.

If you wish to install gnome-3 on an otherwise stable-keyword system, take a look at the gnome overlay's keywords file: http://git.overlays.gentoo.org/gitweb/?p=proj/gnome.git;a=blob;f=status/portage-configs/package.keywords.gnome3

+ empathy-2.34.0-r2.ebuild:
+ empathy-2.x requires gcr-0, which only exists in gnome-keyring-2.x (bug
+ #477394).
