it exits compile procedure with:

checking for TIFFOpen in -ltiff... yes

I've recompiled vigra with no success.

That is because the real offender is media-libs/ilmbase-2.0.0:

Comment 7 Samuli Suominen (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2013-07-23 11:05:34 UTC
So we all know this fails and libIlmThread is the problem...

I've tried disabling -Wl,--as-needed, both in the ebuild and outside of it.
Then there is files/openexr-2.0.0-overlinking.patch.

But even without asneeded and with the patch, and with build.log showing -pthread being used, the libIlmThread doesn't link against -lpthread and the NEEDED entry in the library never appears!

Why? Does anyone know howto force libIlmThread from media-libs/ilmbase link against -lpthread?
Comment 8 Dennis Schridde 2013-07-23 15:13:39 UTC

Any idea why the linker thinks that libpthread.so is not needed? Are linker scripts involved or are the symbols mangled or annotated in any unusual way? Do GNU ld and gold (and others) all show this issue?
Comment 9 Dennis Schridde 2013-07-23 19:01:00 UTC
Persists in ilmbase-2.0.1.
Comment 10 Dennis Schridde 2013-08-25 17:47:40 UTC
The issue persists - any progress in tracking it down?
Comment 11 Samuli Suominen (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2013-08-25 19:00:10 UTC
# pkg-config --libs IlmBase
-lImath -lHalf -lIex -lIexMath -lIlmThread -pthread

^ -pthread is correctly included in the pkg-config file of media-libs/ilmbase

But then media-libs/vigra doesn't use it:

# vigra-config --libs
-lvigraimpex -ljpeg -lpng -lz -ltiff -lIlmImf -lImath -lHalf -lIex -lIlmThread -lhdf5 -lhdf5_hl

And even worse, then enblend is hardcoding -lvigraimpex instead of using `vigra-config` in configure.in:

LIBS="-lvigraimpex $LIBS"

So I'd say this first a bug in vigra for not respecting pkg-config of IlmBase, and then a bug in enblend, not respecting vigra-config output

As in, all caused by vigra using this silly vigra-config instead of proper pkg-config files and their dependency chain
Comment 12 Markus Meier gentoo-dev 2013-09-06 20:50:04 UTC
media-gfx/enblend should be fixed in revision 4.1.1-r1, keeping bug open for media-libs/vigra.

Thanks! That indeed fixed the issue for enblend.
