Comment 4 John L. Poole 2013-05-16 03:34:52 UTC
I'm having problem uploading the build.log. When I click Submit, nothing happens. Obviously I was able to upload the "environment" file. The log is smaller than the maximum size... it's like my Firefox browser just does nothing when I click submit.
Comment 5 John L. Poole 2013-05-16 03:42:30 UTC
I cannot for the life of me upload the build file!! Am I missing something? It's only 191.5 Kbs, it's as if pushing the Submit button does nothing.

I'm guessing my company's firewall may be the culprit, I can't provide the build log at this time, I'll try again in 24 hours when I am outside of our firewall.
Comment 8 Roman Žilka 2013-05-16 11:43:09 UTC
What does 'ldd /usr/lib64/libeap.so' show? Does the compilation pass when you do this?

I don't even see "random_get_bytes" in the sources of anything. You do have libeap.so from wpa_supplicant, right? There's something about this I don't understand, so I'll start guessing. If you've got time to spare, try this:

FEATURES="nostrip" LDFLAGS="-Wl,--no-as-needed" emerge -1 openssl wpa_supplicant wimax
nm /usr/lib64/libeap.so|grep random_get_bytes
nm /usr/lib64/libcrypto.so|grep random_get_bytes
nm /usr/lib64/libssl.so|grep random_get_bytes
emerge -pv openssl wpa_supplicant
Comment 14 John L. Poole 2013-05-16 16:27:47 UTC
I'm still at my employer's office; I'll be connected w/o a firewall in about 6 hours and will provide the build.log (which I still cannot upload). I don't want to waste your time if there answer will reveal itself in the build.log. I'll happy to try anything you like thereafter.

Comment 16 John L. Poole 2013-05-16 22:07:44 UTC
the problem I experienced with uploading arose from the fact that I, as user jlpoole, did not have permissions to "read" it. When I tried at home with my Chrome Browser, instead of Firefox (Chrome's handling of http_proxy requires starting from a shell with the variable so set), I got an error message saying that the file was either empty or I did not have permissions to read it. In Firefox, there was no such warning/message. At any rate, the file is uploaded now.
Comment 17 John L. Poole 2013-05-17 03:37:53 UTC
I tried:

themis jlpoole # FEATURES="nostrip" LDFLAGS="-Wl,--no-as-needed" emerge -1 openssl wpa_supplicant wimax

and the build of wimax failed just as before.

Here's the nm & emerge -pv output:

themis jlpoole # nm /usr/lib64/libeap.so|grep random_get_bytes
                 U random_get_bytes
themis jlpoole # nm /usr/lib64/libcrypto.so|grep random_get_bytes

Comment 18 Roman Žilka 2013-05-17 08:33:36 UTC
The build.log doesn't show anything, but it looks like there is a bug in wpa_supplicant-2.0. The wimax package doesn't need the random_get_bytes function at all, it seems; the library (libeap.so) is just broken. Please re-try 'ldd -d /usr/lib64/libeap.so' now that it's built with nostrip. And then try downgrading to wpa_supplicant-0.7.3-r5 and then emerging wimax again.

files/wpa_supplicant-2.0-fix-undefined-reference-to-random_get_bytes.patch

Source patch; revision from another person welcome. Could be easily incorporated in the already-present "wpa_supplicant-2.0-generate-libeap-peer.patch". Problem viewable with "-Wl,--no-undefined -Wl,--no-allow-shlib-undefined" added into src/eap_peer/Makefile.

Upstream doesn't seem to generate libeap at all. generate-libeap-peer.patch introduces the functionality that is being fixed here. Do you happen to know where this original patch comes from?

Is that an unstripped libeap.so? This doesn't seem to go together with this:

themis jlpoole # nm /usr/lib64/libeap.so|grep random_get_bytes

Anyway. We will soon see.

Thank you.

I created the /usr/local/portage/net-wireless/wpa_supplicant directory; placed the wpa_supplicant-2.0-r2.ebuild therein, created a directory "files", copied all the files from the high watermark /usr/portage/net-wireless/wpa_supplicant/files, added the wpa_supplicant-2.0-fix-undefined-reference-to-random_get_bytes.patch.

Then I successfully emerged  wpa_supplicant-2.0-r2.
Then I successfully emerged net-wireless/wimax-1.5.2-r1 with the following warnings:

 * QA Notice: Package triggers severe warnings which indicate that it
 * may exhibit random runtime failures.

just for the record, here's the message from wpa_supplicant:

>>> Installing (1 of 1) net-wireless/wpa_supplicant-2.0-r2
 * One or more symlinks to directories have been preserved in order to
 * ensure that files installed via these symlinks remain accessible. This
 * indicates that the mentioned symlink(s) may be obsolete remnants of an
 * old install, and it may be appropriate to replace a given symlink with
 * the directory that it points to.
 *
 *      /var/run
 *
 * If this is a clean installation of wpa_supplicant, you
 * have to create a configuration file named
 * /etc/wpa_supplicant/wpa_supplicant.conf
 *
 * An example configuration file is available for reference in
 * /usr/share/doc/wpa_supplicant-2.0-r2/

Thanks for reporting and test - the patch has been added to wpa_supplicant-2.0-r2 :-)
