The tree version of Gromacs 4.5 series is nearly two years old. Recently there have been two releases for it. http://repo.or.cz/w/gromacs.git/shortlog/refs/tags/v4.5.7 Reproducible: Always
gromacs-4.6.1 is in the tree, so I don't really see the need to add 4.5.7. If you really have to use 4.5 for scientific reason use 4.5.9999 from the sci overlay.
So you expect stable users to use overlay for bugfixes? Really?? There are loads of fixes in 4.5.x and normally it is not advised to switch major versions in the middle of a project, so people are still using it. No, git versions are not an option if one wants to know precise version of the program at any given moment, not to mention added hassle jugling around masked packages. I'm asking to reconsider this.
He is right. Such applications should be bumped with every revision.
I am thinking of marking 4.6.1 stable soon and removing 4.5.x completely. Beside the fact that our 4.5.5 is heavily patched for QA reasons by alexxy and my guess is the patch won't apply anymore.

You are in luck, patches still apply: + 03 May 2013; Christoph Junghans <ottxor@gentoo.org> + +files/gromacs-4.5.7-cmake-cpp-asm.patch, +gromacs-4.5.7.ebuild: + added recent 4.5.x version (bug #468454) So, somebody owes me a beer! Nevertheless 4.5.* will go when 4.6 is stable, which can still take some months.
