gcc-4.8 seems to have tripled the size of the build log :/

media-libs/libwebp-0.3.0 was built with the following:
USE="gif jpeg png tiff -experimental -static-libs -swap-16bit-csp" ABI_X86="32 64 -x32"

Comment 4 Paul Zander 2013-04-17 13:08:02 UTC
media-libs/webp-0.3.0 has now separated libraries for demux/mux. As far as I can tell from the logs only libwebp gets linked.
Linking libwebpdemux might be needed too. Can't test it though as I have no idea how to change the CXXFLAGS for chromium...
Comment 5 Mike Gilbert gentoo-dev 2013-04-17 14:15:05 UTC
(In reply to comment #4)

We probably need to add the demux library to the 'libraries' section at the bottom of third_party/libwebp/libwebp.gyp.

webpmess.patch

I fixed the build by placing the attached patch in /etc/portage/patches/www-client/chromium-28.0.1478.0

The ebuild should probably be modified to only apply it when >=media-libs/libwebp-0.3.0 is installed.

webpmess-r2.patch

Taking the patch and linking only webpdemux led to a successful compile.

phajdan: Which patch do you prefer? Could you make this trivial change upstream?

I prefer webpmess-r2.patch, it's smaller. Yeah, I'll take this upstream.

It's interesting I didn't hit this problem when compiling.

What version of libwebp did you build against?

It looks like libwebp-0.3.0 is required, but maybe building with older versions works by some weird fluke.

Just looking at this changeset:

Yeah, it successfully builds unpatched with libwebp-0.2.1. This seems very strange.

This is caused by libwebp-0.3 . I submitted an upstream patch for review: https://codereview.chromium.org/14328020/

I've checked that chromium-27.x compiles and links fine with libwebp-0.3.

The upstream fix above should be in a dev channel release soon.
Comment 14 Paweł Hajdan, Jr. (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2013-04-23 00:36:39 UTC
This should be fixed in chromium-28.0.1485.0. Thanks for report and patches.
