Description Diego Elio Pettenò (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2013-04-10 07:18:47 UTC
Since I cannot upgrade to chromium 27 (use the freaking virtual, please!) I masked it and kept 26 around — but then the v8 upgrade left all the old libraries around and chromium failed to build.

Yes I know you don't want to follow all possible dependency issues. But fix this. Please.

Sorry wrong failure. It's not v8 (although I'll still keep it masked, what the heck). The problem is "just" speech-dispatcher 0.8.

Still pretty upset both as user and QA.

Hey Diego, I'd really like to resolve the issues if possible. Please just explain more - see inline questions. I want Gentoo Chromium project to be QA-friendly and of good quality.

Do you mean virtual/ffmpeg? Please see bug #464676 . This is quite complicated since libav is _not_ a drop-in replacement for ffmpeg.

Hmmm we no longer use preserve old libs in v8, so I'm not sure how it heft all the old libraries on your system. Still, if you have logs and can explain what happened, I can look into it.

I don't like mysterious issues that seem to be "fixed" - ideally I'd like to understand and fix them for good.

This seems to be a dupe of bug #465302 then.

What is the problem? Are you using arch or ~arch? Also see bug #462356 .

I'd like to fix things, but please read again your bug report and apply your own standards to it. I think you'll find some room for improvement. :)

There is a very simple solution for the speech-dispatcher problem, but phajdan objects due to the use of conditional patching to modify the build system.

Since I don't want to start a revert war within the team, we'll go with the less-than-ideal solution for now.
