when applying this patch,on my x230 can use standard acpi interface (15 level)to adjust brightness and without add "acpi_backlight=vendor" in my cmdline,it can be useful for all thinkpad with win8 certification.

Please don't assign bugs yourself and instead pick the Gentoo Linux product, you should note that the genkernel component is for a kernel generation tool and does not address the gentoo-sources kernel. Thanks in advance, we will look into this.

I'm thinking we should wait for some consensus on the upstream bug.
Had some users confirm on IRC this works, therefore I applied it some time ago (just not to all kernel versions, which is why this bug is still open, but also to track it). So indeed, given the nature indicated in the last comment to that bug it should only be used temporarily.
Present in all current branches, let's await upstream to see how this continues.
