This version built for me before, and one of the lines being removed from liblua/Makefile is "AR= ar rcu". It's now trying to run "x86_64-pc-linux-gnu-ar <files>" where it probably previously ran "ar rcu <files>". I think that Makefile needs patching to make the line "$(AR) $@ $(BASE_O)" expect $AR to be just ar, without flags.

I have removed all the unneeded sed invocations now. They are much too complicated, and setting AR/RANLIB on the make command line neatly overrides anything in the Makefiles anyway.

Maybe you want to take care of submitting that.
