Julian, just a little proposal - maybe we should add 'debug' USE-flag(and handle CFLAGS issue, that happens with --enable-debug)?

well, debug CFLAGS are not meant to be set via an ebuild

however I could support the -DDEBUG cppflag if it does something interesting. Afais it's just some stderr crap, I might add it later though.

that's what i mean in my previous post

But i forgot about that all this debug thing is commonly just a define(and using --enable-debug is not mandatory at all), blame me :-). And about 'stderr crap' - this 'crap' matters while debugging :-)
