An "equery files cholmod" shows that cholmod_partition.h isn't part of the installed headers, although the README.txt in the Include subdirectory of the cholmod source shows that cholmod_partition.h can be used by other programs. (On the other hand, cholmod_blas.h seems to be internal only, so it's probably useless in /usr/include, but it *is* included among the installed headers.) Copying cholmod_partition.h from cholmod to /usr/include fixes the problem.
