That's incorrect and unneeded.

In the KDE overlay for testing. Can someone with an nVidia card verify that this actually works? I don't have one in my laptop.

It seems bug not related to ebuild. I read about such problems on plasmoid's home page on kde-look.org.

Tested on my amd64 home desktop. Works well with Geforce 120 GT and 630 GT with 295.75, 304.60 and also with 310.14 (from my custom ebuild).
