Description William Hubbs gentoo-dev 2012-11-02 20:09:18 UTC
All,

for separate /usr support, we need a stable version of genkernel that
mounts /usr.

I am mostly putting this here so it can block our tracker, but when you
are ready to stabilize a new version, can you make this bug the stable
request?
Comment 1 Richard Yao (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2012-11-05 18:55:36 UTC
genkernel stabilization is blocked on OpenRC stabilizaiton. All versions that support separate /usr have "!<sys-apps/openrc-0.9.9" in RDEPEND. Once a newer version of OpenRC is stabilized, we will be able to stabilize a newer version of genkernel.

Arches were added to openrc bug, I guess the same can be done for genkernel no?

I have no objections. Repoman should complain should someone try to stablize a newer version of genkernel without stabilizing OpenRC first.

What version do you want stable? 3.4.45?

Will CC arches for 3.4.45 as nobody replied, ChangeLog entry says it's a candidate for stable and people is still hitting missing /run with install CDs

This is a late response, but 3.4.45 is fine. Commits to genkernel HEAD are always thoroughly tested, so it should always be safe to stabilize the latest version unless it is explicitly stated otherwise.

With that said, it is always a good idea to ask when in doubt. We seem to be overwhelmed by bugs for various exotic use cases and feature, so it would be best to ping people in IRC if no one responds in a timely manner.

That includes me. I am overwhelmed with bug mail these days. Sometimes things slip through the cracks. I imagine that it is the same for other people on the alias.

I can't do anything for HPPA until bug #417261 is resolved.
