New version is in the tree. That should take care of this issue.
Comment 3 Jeremy Murphy 2012-10-28 05:37:07 UTC
3.10.8-r1 is still broken.
Comment 4 Daniel Troeder 2012-11-09 10:03:00 UTC
I can confirm this on ~x86_64. I doesn't compile with "-swig java", but it works with "swig java" or "swig -java" (and probably also with "-swig -java":).
Comment 5 Frank Ridderbusch 2012-11-09 19:41:29 UTC
Well, I got to compile it finally. However the changes I made are to generated files from the configure run and I would know how to change the configure process to make it running.

I found, there are actually 2 problems. If you execute a find for Java like this, you'll get this output:

# find . -name java\*
./src/java
./src/java/java_swig_wrapper.cxx
./src/java/java_msvc_wrapper.cxx
./lib_linux_x86_64/obj/java_swig_wrapper.o

As you see the java_swig_wrapper is acutually a C++ file. If you look at my patch here, you'll see, that the generated Makefile lists a java_swig_wrapper.c file.

+++ Makefile	2012-11-09 20:18:56.756939600 +0100

 JAVA_SRCDIR      = $(OPAL_SRCDIR)/java
-JAVA_WRAPPER     = $(JAVA_SRCDIR)/java_swig_wrapper.c

+VPATH_CXX       += $(JAVA_SRCDIR)
 SOURCES         += $(JAVA_WRAPPER)

 endif

After this change the compile would run until the next problem. The linker would complain, that ./lib_linux_x86_64/plugins/speex/speexcodec.o is not compiled with -fPIC and that creating a *.so file failed.

After adding a -fPIC to CXXFLAGS in plugins/plugin-inc.mak would make this problem go away as well.

So, with these changes you can atleast get opal merged, but the real fix would need probably to be different.

BTW I'm merging with these USE flags:

[ebuild R ] net-libs/opal-3.10.8-r1 USE="audio ffmpeg ipv6 java ldap plugins sip sipim ssl theora video wav x264 xml -capi -celt -debug -doc -examples -fax -h224 -h281 -h323 -iax -ilbc -ivr -ixj -lid -sbc -srtp -static-libs -stats -swig -vpb -vxml -x264-static" 0 kB

confirming on x86_64; still persists.
Comment 8 Jeremy Murphy 2012-11-15 11:15:01 UTC
Frank, thanks for all that testing! I imagine that it is possible but not trivial to automate those changes via the ebuild. Finding someone to do it is another question. It might be better to just block that combination of USE flags from the ebuild for now? It feels like this ebuild is actually too broken to be in testing (~) and would be better off hardmasked.

Secondly... anyone want to take the issue upstream? I just don't have time at the moment, sorry.
Comment 9 Jesus Rivero (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2012-12-03 23:35:23 UTC
net-libs/opal-3.10.9 is in the tree now. I've committed a patch, that I will send to upstream soon, to fix both Ruby and java bindings.

Thanks all for your testing and reports.

Let me know if you have any problems.
