Description Oliver Freyermuth 2012-10-05 10:20:41 UTC
Compilation fails after upgrading to gentoo-sources 3.6.0.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Upgrade to gentoo-sources 3.6, configure and build
2. Recompile openafs-kernel-1.6.1-r1
Actual Results:
Compilation fails

Expected Results:
Compilation works

This problem has already been fixed upstream.
Patches can be fetched from upstream's git, I have tested the .patch-files prepared here (applicable against openafs-kernel 1.6.1-r1):
http://cvs.rpmfusion.org/viewvc/rpms/openafs-kmod/devel/?root=free
(Numbers 0001 - 0008)
by dropping them into the patches-directory and enabling epatch_user.
Compilation is fine with those patches applied, and OpenAFS works again with linux 3.6.

Output of emerge --info '=net-fs/openafs-kernel-1.6.1-r1'

Output was generated after installation of the 'fixed' version with epatch_user, but otherwise unchanged config

I have implemented this on 2 systems, one with 3.4.9 and one with 3.6.1. On both systems it compiles and the module loads just fine. I've done minimal testing on both systems so far - directory (ls -l) listing and a little file reading/writing. Heavier usage will have to wait for the opportunity. (Basically working from home, without the employer-provided Linux laptop)

Patches apply, compile and work well here with the current 3.6 kernel (AFS clients).

I have found one minor oddity, and I'm not sure where it's from. Once I compiled the new kernel module, I had to manually run "depmod -a" before I could actually start afs. Not a biggie, but I haven't had to do that manual step in ages.

should be all set now in the tree; thanks for the report!
