Hi, which locale are you using? I just tried de_DE.UTF-8 via

$ LC_ALL=de_DE.UTF-8 wicd-curses

and it works fine.

Oh, I tried 1.7.2.4-r1, does it work for you with that version? In this case we should probably just aim for stabilization.

I can confirm this with wicd-1.7.2.1

gentbox ~ # LC_ALL=cs_CZ.UTF-8 wicd-curses

UnicodeDecodeError: 'ascii' codec can't decode byte 0xc3 in position 8: ordinal not in range(128)

The error is nearly identical.
The wicd daemon continues to work (IIRC wicd-curses communicates with it via D-BUS)

Happens under any user account, including root. This is in rxvt-unicode, so UTF-8 should not be a problem.

I emerged wicd-1.7.2.4-r1 with USE="X ncurses nls pm-utils -ambiance -gtk (-ioctl) -libnotify -mac4lin"
And the bug is gone. Yay!

So, should I open a stabilization bug or would someone rather take care of this? (Thomas?)

Let's hijack this bug. Arches (amd64,x86), please test and stable.
Comment 5 Agostino Sarubbo gentoo-dev 2012-10-15 10:05:26 UTC
amd64 stable
Comment 6 Thomas Kahle (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2012-10-16 21:24:27 UTC
x86 stable. Closing.
