As I said above this linking error happens while setting up the prefix. The interesting line in the configuration part is:

..
What libraries to use? [none]
..

which should be

..
What libraries to use? [-lnsl -lgdbm -ldb -ldl -lm -lcrypt -lutil -lc -lgdbm_compat]
..

as is the case later in the prefix setup when I can upgrade perl after the `emerge -e system` step is run. I have no clue which package is missing, but I suggest to update the prefix setup page [1] accordingly (e.g. install an older version of perl).

not going to bother the Perl team with this
Comment 4 Fabian Groffen gentoo-dev 2012-07-19 16:25:05 UTC
You're on a Gentoo Linux host, right?
Comment 5 Christopher Schwan 2012-07-20 08:19:35 UTC
Yes!

Looks similar to bug 425538, please retest?
Comment 7 Fabian Groffen gentoo-dev 2012-08-15 14:44:37 UTC
ehm, yes, could very well be
Comment 8 Christopher Schwan 2012-08-15 16:13:53 UTC
I tried 5.16.1 and it still fails to link.

When? It was only fixed in the past day
Comment 10 Fabian Groffen gentoo-dev 2012-08-15 16:36:32 UTC
I have this problem on Solaris 10 Sparc now :(
Comment 11 Fabian Groffen gentoo-dev 2012-08-15 17:03:32 UTC
ok, the fix for bug #425538 broke solaris

I checked in another try, I hope that solves this one too.
Comment 13 Christopher Schwan 2012-08-16 09:58:16 UTC
Right now I tried again with a fresh prefix and it still does not link :-/ .

Btw, the new bootstrapping script is simply awesome! Thank your for this!
Comment 14 Fabian Groffen gentoo-dev 2012-08-16 10:22:32 UTC
I still need to commit the fix I made for sparcv9
Comment 15 Fabian Groffen gentoo-dev 2012-08-16 15:12:25 UTC
ok, committed, it wasn't really able to deal with symlinks.

Since it outputs what it looks for and finds now, it's easy to quickly determine if it's going to succeed or not.
Comment 16 Christopher Schwan 2012-08-22 10:55:42 UTC
Works for me now. Thanks a lot!
