After upgrading to net-fs/cifs-utils-5.5 mounting of any Samba share fails silently, i. e. with no error message and no message logged anywhere. The only indication is that the share is not mounted and the exit code of mount.cifs is 2. Downgrading to net-fs/cifs-utils-5.4 helps, mount.cifs of that version works (again). I'll attach the output of an strace run.
