Description Paweł Rumian 2012-06-29 10:45:00 UTC
After upgrading from media-sound/mpd-0.16.8 to media-sound/mpd-0.17, mpd does not play any song. After the 'play' command a loud humming/buzzing noise comes from speakers.

Downgrading to media-sound/mpd-0.16.8 resolves the issue.
No errors in /var/log/mpd.log, dmesg. Audio card is SB Live! (chip emu10k1).

I've got same problem with my Xonar DX and OSS4 drivers

Did any of you two report this upstream? If not, please do so and link the bug in the "URL" field here. The upstream bug tracker is available at http://bugs.musicpd.org/
Comment 3 Adam Jones 2012-07-21 12:59:08 UTC
I get the same problem using an Intel HDA on-board chipset. Reverting to 0.16.8 fixes the problem.

mpd.error.log reports:
Apr 10 13:39 : ffmpeg: Open failed

Looks like http://bugs.musicpd.org/view.php?id=3515 which is fixed upstream.
Comment 4 Christoph Mende (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2012-07-21 15:25:32 UTC
So, can anyone please try current git master?

$ git clone git://git.musicpd.org/master/mpd.git
$ cd mpd
$ ./configure; make; ./src/mpd

should be enough to test. mpd-0.17 works fine even with pulseaudio here in intel hda, so I cannot test it.
Comment 5 Christoph Mende (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2012-07-23 11:12:42 UTC
Looking through the recent commits, this should be the fix:
http://git.musicpd.org/cgit/master/mpd.git/patch/?id=dbee2f199640ec296b049801fe79e35c4b3424f6
Can anyone having this problem please test it?
Comment 6 Christoph Mende (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2012-07-23 11:27:32 UTC
This is reproducible when using the software mixer, using said patch fixes the problem here. I've just committed 0.17-r1 including this fix.
