Description Francisco J. Vazquez 2012-06-06 12:35:17 UTC
If I enable CONFIG_X86_X32 in kernel 3.4 and compile the ati-drivers 12.6_beta, modprobing fglrx fails with "unknown symbol old_rsp". This is due to ati-drivers-old_rsp.patch, which only adds the line DEFINE_PER_CPU(unsigned long, old_rsp); if CONFIG_X86_X32 is not defined. Removing the #ifndef CONFIG_X86_X32 and #endif lines above and below fixes the problem.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Compile kernel 3.4.0 with CONFIG_X86_X32 enabled
2. Emerge ati-drivers-12.6_beta
3. Modprobe fglrx
Actual Results:
fglrx fails to load with unknown symbol old_rsp in dmesg

Expected Results:
fglrx loads

As far as I understand this is just becouse fglrx can't work with x32 applications for now. This should be fixed with the first release of ati-drivers supporting the 3.4 kernel series.

ati-drivers now fails early if CONFIG_X86_X32 is enabled.

It is possible that the 12.8 ebuild I just commited to gentoo (and some fixes to 12.6 after this bug was opened) will fix x32 support. Can anyone please test this?

Seems to work fine here.

Good enough for me, thanks
