Description Ryan Hill (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2012-04-14 05:51:33 UTC
I noticed that when building glibc with 4.7 I get this warning from portage:

 * QA Notice: This package installs one or more file names containing
 * characters that are not encoded with the UTF-8 encoding.
 *
 * 	usr/lib/debug/usr/lib64/misc/glibc/getconf/POSIX_V7_LP64_OFF64\ufffd.debug
 * 	usr/lib64/misc/glibc/getconf/POSIX_V7_LP64_OFF64\ufffd

During the strip phase:

strip: x86_64-pc-linux-gnu-strip --strip-unneeded -R .comment -R .GCC.command.line
[...]
   /usr/lib64/misc/glibc/getconf/POSIX_V6_LP64_OFF64
   /usr/lib64/misc/glibc/getconf/POSIX_V7_LP64_OFF64

(U+FFFD being the unicode replacement character, circle with a ? in it)

Don't know if this is an actual problem, just thought it was weird.

i've rebuilt glibc-2.15 at this point, and don't see those wonky names ...

Might be helpful to nail down the cause, so copy-pasting my locale info from my duplicate bug:

ok, my x32 system could trigger this bug reliably. after applying this patch, i can longer do so. queued in all 2.12, 2.13, 2.14, and 2.15 versions. i pushed it out in 2.15-r2 w/out revbump as it seems to only affect gcc-4.7 (masked) peeps.

should be all set now in the tree; thanks for the report!
