When I quit Neverball, my desktop is restored but the system's locked up. I have to use the Magic SysRq key to reboot it. I've got a GeForce MX440 and I'm using NVIDIA's driver. package versions: libsdl-1.2.6-r3 sdl-mixer-1.2.5-r1 sdl-image-1.2.3 glut-3.7.1 nvidia-glx-1.0.5328-r1 nvidia-kernel-1.0.5328-r1 xfree-4.3.0-r3 Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: Portage 2.0.50-r1 (default-x86-1.4, gcc-3.3.2, glibc-2.3.2-r9, 2.4.22-gentoo-r4) ================================================================= System uname: 2.4.22-gentoo-r4 i686 AMD Athlon(tm) Processor Gentoo Base System version 1.4.3.10 ccache version 2.3 [enabled] Autoconf: sys-devel/autoconf-2.58 Automake: sys-devel/automake-1.8.2 ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="x86" AUTOCLEAN="yes" CFLAGS="-O2 -march=athlon -pipe" CHOST="i686-pc-linux-gnu" COMPILER="gcc3" CONFIG_PROTECT="/etc /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/xkb /usr/kde/2/share/config /usr/kde/3/share/config /usr/share/config /var/qmail/control" CONFIG_PROTECT_MASK="/etc/gconf /etc/env.d" CXXFLAGS="-O2 -march=athlon -pipe" DISTDIR="/usr/portage/distfiles" FEATURES="autoaddcvs ccache sandbox" GENTOO_MIRRORS="http://ftp.snt.utwente.nl/pub/os/linux/gentoo http://212.219.247.10/sites/www.ibiblio.org/gentoo/ ftp://ftp.easynet.nl/mirror/gentoo/ http://ftp.easynet.nl/mirror/gentoo/" MAKEOPTS="-j2" PKGDIR="/usr/portage/packages" PORTAGE_TMPDIR="/var/tmp" PORTDIR="/usr/portage" PORTDIR_OVERLAY="/usr/local/portage" SYNC="rsync://rsync.gentoo.org/gentoo-portage" USE="3dnow X apm avi berkdb bonobo cdr crypt cups encode esd fbcon foomaticdb gdbm gif gnome gphoto2 gpm gstreamer gtk gtk2 gtkhtml guile imlib java jpeg libg++ libwww mad mikmod mmx motif mozilla mpeg ncurses nls oggvorbis opengl oss pam pdflib perl png python quicktime readline sdl slang spell sse ssl svga tcltk tcpd tiff truetype x86 xml2 xmms xv zlib"
You have an odd mix of x86 and ~x86. For example, the latest nvidia drivers for x86 are: nvidia-kernel-1.0.4496-r3 nvidia-glx-1.0.4496 xfree-4.3.0-r4 is the latest available for x86 as well. sys-kernel/gentoo-sources-2.4.22-r5 is the latest. Seems like you might try making sure your system is consistent. Upgrade to the latest stable kernel, downgrade to the latest stable nvidia drivers. Upgrade xfree. run revdep-rebuild. If none of that helps, try remerging sys-kernel/linux-headers, glibc and gcc. neverball works fine for me - I have a very similar setup to yours.
Thank you. I've emerged the latest stable xfree and the 1.0.4496-r3 nvidia packages. The problem seems to be gone now.
Glad things are working for you now.
Stable on alpha.
