Created attachment 307281 [details] Build log When emerging net-irc/weechat-0.3.7 it fails complaining about missing ruby dependency, despite having "-ruby" in USE flags. The error is: * You need to select at least one compatible Ruby installation target via RUBY_TARGETS in make.conf. * Compatible targets for this package are: ruby18 It seems like it is still calling ruby-ng_pkg_setup, and I have RUBY_TARGETS="ruby19" set, which weechat doesn't like. After removing RUBY_TARGETS from make.conf it compiles fine without ruby. # emerge -pqv =net-irc/weechat-0.3.7 [ebuild R ] net-irc/weechat-0.3.7 USE="alias charset crypt fifo irc logger nls perl python relay rmodifier scripts spell ssl xfer -doc -guile% -lua -ruby -tcl" LINGUAS="pl%* -cs% -de% -es% -fr% -hu% -it% -ja% -pt_BR% -ru%" RUBY_TARGETS="-ruby18 (-ruby19%*)" # I can reproduce this with RUBY_TARGETS="" for all versions of weechat. For some reason, ruby_targets_ruby19 is masked on your system but not on mine, but explicitly setting RUBY_TARGETS="" has the same effect by causing ruby-ng_pkg_setup() not to find any targets. It appears that ruby-ng_pkg_setup() shouldn't be used at all for when ruby support is disabled. For real correct functioning, REQUIRED_USE should be set to disallow any ruby target flags when ruby isn't in USE.
(In reply to comment #1) > For real correct functioning, REQUIRED_USE should be set to disallow any > ruby target flags when ruby isn't in USE. What about the packages that have hard dependency on ruby? They will probably need RUBY_TARGETS, but they do not need 'ruby' in USE.
I had to remove ruby-1.9 because i want to stabilise the package and r1.9 is not stable. Seems like I expected too much from those eclass, now I run those phases conditionaly only when the required master useflag is set. Please reopen the bug if it is still present after you sync the tree in few hours.
