I am trying to make an ebuild for a java-based program using install4j installer. It is trying to create an empty directory in /opt/icedtea-bin-7.2.0/jre/.systemPrefs. This gets caught by portage as ACCESS DENIED mkdir: /opt/icedtea-bin-7.2.0/jre/.systemPrefs I am not the only one getting this kind of of error. While I do agree that the java_jdk is probably at fault I do not know how to stop doing this mkdir call. But, thanks to the bug https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=741821 when I just create the directory myself as root, I do not get these errors anymore. There is no additional writes to the root filesystem necessary, it is just about the missing "skeleton" directory. Would you be willing to add this to all java ebuilds so the directory would be pre-created for everybody? (mkdir /opt/icedtea-bin-7.2.0/jre/.systemPrefs) Note: I am trying like a crazy to get working ebuild for sci-biology/OBO-Edit2 (does not work). It is using same install4j thing like sci-biology/tablet-bin (works). Hey, I do have these: /opt/sun-jdk-1.6.0.22/jre/.systemPrefs /opt/sun-jdk-1.5.0.19/jre/.systemPrefs /opt/sun-jdk-1.6.0.29/jre/.systemPrefs /opt/sun-jdk-1.6.0.30/jre/.systemPrefs It looks this is actually just a fault of icedtea-bin-7.2.0. Other java VMs have this directory.
We create those directories for other VMs at install time for the same reason as in the Read Hat bug.
Fixed by creating the missing files for source builds. Those affected by this issue please reinstall icedtea. The fix will propagate to icedtea-bin on next version bump.
