Description Guillaume Castagnino 2012-02-07 09:34:23 UTC
Hi,

I saw you just introduced a blocker to <dev-libs/cyrus-sasl-2.1.25 in kdepimlibs, because of https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=289207. (http://sources.gentoo.org/cgi-bin/viewvc.cgi/gentoo-x86/kde-base/kdepimlibs/kdepimlibs-4.8.0.ebuild?r1=1.2&r2=1.3)

Fine (apart that this causes downgrade for working systems ;)), but I would like to point to you that this blocker is too much, because the fix shown here https://bugzilla.cyrusimap.org/show_bug.cgi?id=3590 that corrects this issue is already in tree since cyrus-sasl-2.1.25-r1 (gentoo bug #392761).
Note that the forum post http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-p-6910074.html that suggest downgrade is older than the fix in tree

So imho, the blocker should only concerns =dev-libs/cyrus-sasl-2.1.25, but not <dev-libs/cyrus-sasl-2.1.25

Thanks !

I had the problem with -r1 yesterday, I'll try again to check with a full update

Thanks !

Just to notice, packages depending on cyrus-sasl has to be rebuild after cyrus-sasl upgrade. If not, they will fail with a : "/usr/lib64/libsasl2.so.2: no version information available", which is not always recorded in logs depending on the software that uses it... (.xsessions-errors ?)

May be is the clue somewhere around this ? Because I uses -r1 since some time now, with a SASL authenticated SMTP server, and I cannot reproduce anymore with -r1

I checked .xsession-errors, there were no sasl related reports there

Indeed, the cyrus-sasl ebuild has the fix included already. I tried to recompile kdepimlibs but I still get the same error. I'll spend the afternoon digging in more, if I don't get any luck I'll just revert the fix

Thanks for looking at it.

I do not know if it may help, but I installed cyrus-sasl-2.1.25-r1 before installing 4.8. So all my kde 4.8 installation was done on top of the last cyrus-sasl including the fix. Like this, I never hit the error, whereas I'm using SMTP with SASL auth too.

Reverted the dep change.

same as #5
but using SSL/TLS
Authentication: PLAIN
and i am able to send mails using that smtp server.
