Ebuilds for app-misc/tracker have HOMEPAGE="http://www.tracker-project.org/", but this domain has presumably been let go by the authors and has now been picked up by domain trading scumbags. Let's not link to them, let's link to the new Tracker homepage instead. Patch to ebuild included. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Visit URL mentioned in Tracker ebuild. Actual Results: 1. Get redirected to hxxp://landing.premiumsale.com/?domain=tracker-project.org . 2. Feel disappointed, dirty, and abused. Expected Results: 1. Reach homepage of Tracker project. 2. Rejoice.
Created attachment 298997 [details, diff] Patch to tracker-0.12.9.ebuild
Jer changed the URL of this bug to "http://projects.gnome.org/tracker". That is the URL that demonstrates the *solution*, not the *problem*. Per the bug entry guidelines the URL field should contain "URL that demonstrates the problem you are seeing (optional)." "http://www.tracker-project.org/" demonstrates the *problem* so to avoid confusion I'm reverting Jer's change. Please respond if Gentoo bug entry guidelines are incorrect.
(In reply to comment #2) This is gentoo bugzilla, not a hopeless government bureaucracy ;) The URL field is in practice used for whatever URL that you think is the most helpful for everyone who reads the bug to see immediately - for example, a report about the same issue in the upstream bug tracker, a git commit that fixes the reported error, a mailing list message that explains the cause of the problem, etc. In this case, the old homepage and the new homepage in the URL field are both equally useful, but using the new homepage perhaps would prevent domain parkers from getting a higher google pagerank. Fixed, thanks for reporting. > 18 Jan 2012; Alexandre Rostovtsev <tetromino@gentoo.org> > tracker-0.10.27.ebuild, tracker-0.10.35.ebuild, tracker-0.12.8.ebuild, > tracker-0.12.9.ebuild, tracker-9999.ebuild: > Update homepage URL (bug #398963, thanks to Wicher Minnaard).
Actually I've only been working for the government for a short while now but apparently I'm quick in picking up habits ;-) Thanks for the feedback. Offtopic: For the record, when I posted the bug I had the URL set to hxxp:// precisely to avoid increasing the parker's pagerank. Squatting abandoned project domains is apparently quite attractive, since all those web-accessible ebuilds on so many mirrors point to them. See Diego's blog entry about this: http://blog.flameeyes.eu/2008/11/27/nitpicking-and-improving.
