Description Maksim 'max_posedon' Melnikau 2012-01-07 00:17:07 UTC
I'm testing kmod (with removing module-init-tools). Basically all works fine, but I had to create /sbin/modprobe symlink manually, kmod doesn't installs it and respect to PATH:
1. module-init-tools installs binary to /sbin/
2. kmod installs binary to /usr/bin/

So, udev's 80-drivers.rules and 75-probe_mtd.rules with /sbin/modprobe doesn't work with kmod

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. install kmod
2. remove module-init-tools
3. reboot
Actual Results:
dmesg shows a lot of problems with running /sbin/modprobe (because it doesn't exist), udev doesn't load some modules

Expected Results:
udev should load modules. dmesg doesn't complain about missing /sbin/modprobe

Comment 1 William Hubbs gentoo-dev 2012-01-09 13:20:48 UTC
I am working on this now; kmod needs to put compatibility symlinks in /sbin
instead of /usr/bin and block module-init-tools when compatibility mode
is on.
Comment 2 William Hubbs gentoo-dev 2012-01-09 15:01:12 UTC
The symlinks are now installed in /sbin which is where they belonged in
the first place and a blocker has been added so that module-init-tools
cannot be installed at the same time as kmod.

Note that this package was also added to p.mask in the same list as
udev. This was done because we now have symbolic links in /sbin that
link to binaries in /usr/bin which are needed before /usr is mounted.
