Description Norman Back 2011-12-31 10:19:26 UTC
sys-kernel/dracut-014 fails to fsck /usr with message:
dracut: Checking ext4: /dev/mapper/syssdc3-usr
dracut: issuing e2fsck -a noatime,nodiratime,barrier=1,commit=600 /dev/mapper/syssdc3-usr

This is followed by e2fsck usage message and:
dracut Warning: e2fsck returns with 16

and:
sh: can't access tty, ...

The relevant line from /etc/fstab is:
/dev/mapper/syssdc3-usr /usr ext4 noatime,nodiratime,barrier=1,commit=600 0 2

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Update to sys-kernel/dracut-014 on a system with a /usr partition
2.reboot
3.
Actual Results:
1.Update to sys-kernel/dracut-014 on a system with a /usr partition
2.reboot
3. boot fails with fsck usage error on /usr partition

Expected Results:
1.Update to sys-kernel/dracut-014 on a system with a /usr partition
2.reboot
3. fsck successfully checks /usr partition
4. boot completes successfully
Comment 1 Norman Back 2011-12-31 10:36:59 UTC
For completeness, Steps to Reproduce should read:
1.Update to sys-kernel/dracut-014 on a system with a /usr partition
2.Use dracut to create a new initramfs
3.Configure grub.conf to use new initramfs
3.reboot

I have also the same problem...
Comment 4 Amadeusz Żołnowski (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2012-01-05 12:43:06 UTC
Please append -L=6 when calling dracut and attach produced log. Please also attach /etc/dracut.conf.

My /etc/dracut.conf

Same problem here. dracut calls "e2fsck -a <mount-opts> <usrfs>" instead of just "e2fsck -a <usrfs>" and exits with RC=16

Please test fix by adding my overlay (layman -a aidecoe) and installing sys-kernel/dracut-9999.

Still failing when trying to do:
e2fsck -a noatime,nodiratime,barrier=1,commit=600 /dev/mapper/syssdc3-usr
rather than:
e2fsck -a /dev/mapper/syssdc3-usr

However it does now enter a recovery shell after failure.
Comment 11 Amadeusz Żołnowski (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2012-01-12 15:55:50 UTC
Are you sure you have used latest dracut-9999 from my overlay? I've got a feedback from another developer that usrmount works now and already sent patch to upstream.

Belay that. My test VM just crashed with all partitions corrupted. I rolled it
back to the the last snapshot, reinstalled sys-kernel/dracut-9999, built a new
initramfs and now dracut tests OK.

The boot still fails when /etc/init.d/localmount tries to fsck the /usr
partition mounted by dracut. However this is not a dracut issue.
Comment 13 Amadeusz Żołnowski (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2012-01-12 16:40:37 UTC
Thank you all! I've committed fix as dracut-014-r1, but will keep bug status until upstream accepts the patch.
