By default the init.d script should check for mpd's default (/etc/mpd.conf or ~/.mpd/mpdconf) unless maybe it would be a better thing for gentoo to use mpd's configure file, which in case the binary would be launched with /usr/bin/mpd /etc/conf.d/mpd.conf. Otherwise here's a init.d script that would be better for those of us with already existing conf's
