Description chris stankevitz 2011-11-19 04:38:17 UTC
In the media-libs/opencv/opencv-2.3* ebuilds this line:

  if [ "$(gcc-version)" > "4.4" ]; then
    ewarn "CUDA and >=sys-devel/gcc-4.5 [snip]

Should read
  if [ "$(gcc-version)" >= "4.5" ]; then
    ewarn "CUDA and >=sys-devel/gcc-4.5 [snip]

opencv USE=cuda does not work with GCC 4.5 or higher (as the ewarn says). It works fine with GCC 4.4.5 (as the ewarn implies). The condition for dropping USE=cuda should be if gcc is >= 4.5, not if it is > 4.4.

Chris

Reproducible: Always
Comment 1 Andreas K. Hüttel archtester gentoo-dev 2011-11-22 22:40:48 UTC
Actually the problem is a different one... gcc-version returns output of the form X.Y (without the third number), so the condition is correct.

Now it might be useful to actually inherit the eclass that defines gcc-version... :o)

Should be fixed, please sync in a few hours and try again.
Comment 2 chris stankevitz 2011-11-23 07:59:37 UTC
Unfortunately this does not seem to fix the problem. I still get this message when attempting to emerge opencv-2.3.1a with USE=cuda:

>>> Messages generated by process 23065 on 2011-11-22 23:49:41 PST for package media-libs/opencv-2.3.1a:

WARN: configure
CUDA and >=sys-devel/gcc-4.5 do not play well together. Disabling CUDA support.

Notes:

1. I am using the updated ebuild

crs-m6600 ~ # grep inherit /usr/portage/media-libs/opencv/opencv-2.3.1a.ebuild
inherit base toolchain-funcs cmake-utils fortran-2 python

2. I am using the correct gcc version
crs-m6600 ~ # gcc --version
gcc (Gentoo 4.4.5 p1.3, pie-0.4.5) 4.4.5

crs-m6600 ~ # gcc-config -l
 [1] x86_64-pc-linux-gnu-4.4.5 *
 [2] x86_64-pc-linux-gnu-4.5.3

3. When I create an updated overlay ebuild using the fix described in the original report, the problem does not happen (although as you point out this could be a fluke as I do not understand how gcc-version works).

4. an emerge --info with the gcc-4.4 selected:

crs-m6600 ~ # emerge --info =media-libs/opencv-2.3.1a
Portage 2.1.10.11 (default/linux/amd64/10.0, gcc-4.4.5, glibc-2.12.2-r0, 3.0.6-gentoo x86_64)

OK this time it should really be fixed. (Did I ever mention that bash is weird?)
