There is reference to timezone data folder: # cat /opt/icedtea6-bin-1.10.4/jre/lib/tz.properties sun.zoneinfo.dir=/usr/share/javazi But there is no such folder: # ls /usr/share/javazi ls: cannot access /usr/share/javazi: No such file or directory As a result, time in java application(glassfish2 for exsample) differs from system time, because system uses =sys-libs/timezone-data-2011l and java-vm uses own timezone data, which is not valid for Russia. To temporary fix this issue I copyed /usr/share/javazi folder from debian lenny and now the time in java application is correct. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Install =dev-java/icedtea-bin-1.10.4 2.set icedtea-bin as a default java-vm 3.System timezone is Europe/Moscow 4.Launch glassfish2 Actual Results: In glassfish log time differs from time shown by typing date in console: for exsample: # date Чтв Ноя 3 15:49:22 MSK 2011 #tail -f /opt/glassfish3/glassfish/domains/domain1/logs/server.log [#|2011-11-03T14:49:56.706+0300|INFO|glassfishv3.0|javax.enterprise.system.std.com.sun.enterprise.v3.services.impl|_ThreadID=21;_ThreadName=Thread-1;|Started bundle: file:/opt/glassfish3/glassfish/modules/autostart/osgi-web-container.jar|#]

(In reply to comment #0) > There is reference to timezone data folder: > # cat /opt/icedtea6-bin-1.10.4/jre/lib/tz.properties > sun.zoneinfo.dir=/usr/share/javazi > Setting sun.zoneinfo.dir=/usr/share/zoneinfo spits out a warning but gives the correct time. Simply removing /opt/icedtea6-bin-1.10.4/jre/lib/zi does the trick as well. This time without warning and it even works with oracles jdks which also carry outdated time data for Russia. Using javas own zone info the time zone is labeled MSK while the above methods will label it GMT+4. Looks like the proper fix would be to package javazic and timezone-data-java. A somewhat simpler test case would be: class TZTest { public static void main(String args[]) { System.out.println(new java.util.Date().toString()); } } And run with: TZ="Europe/Moscow" java TZTest

Should be fixed in icedtea-bin-6.1.10.4, please test.
I can confirm, that time is correct with =dev-java/icedtea-bin-6.1.10.4
Great, thanks. Icedtea-bin-7 also has these updated definitions.
